Visiting the Hospital

Hospital staff will facilitate visiting in pre-arranged circumstances only. We aim to facilitate visits for all patients, in as much as the hospital has the capacity to provide safe and fair visiting.

Our support staff are notified daily of patients for whom visiting has been arranged for and by whom. No other visitors will be permitted access to the hospital.

Children are not allowed to visit the hospital unless this is discussed and pre-arranged with the Nurse in Charge.

The hospital supports scheduled visiting to protect patients, visitors and staff and to ensure the hospital can continue to provide vital services for all patients.

Information about visiting the Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic 

Visitors are required to wear a face mask while in the hospital and to perform hand hygiene, using the alcohol gel provided.

Do NOT visit the hospital if you have symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, dry cough, fatigue, cold or flu like) or if you are required to quarantine, self-isolate or restrict your movements for any reason.

We are encouraging families and loved ones of our patients to keep in touch with them as much as possible by phone, through video calls, by sending them a message via our email service thinkingofyou@stjames.ie, which we will deliver to their bedside and more traditional ways like letters or cards. Electronic devices are available on the wards to facilitate phone and video calls for patients who require assistance or don’t have access to a phone. Please contact the ward to arrange this.
